Hug First, Talk Later

This experience changed how I saw arguments in marriage. When emotions ran high, I would speak quickly and want to prove I was right. In the end, we were both exhausted.

When a small thing became a big issue

One day, I argued with my wife over something trivial. Bad timing and unsettled emotions turned a small matter into a big one. Our voices rose, and we exchanged hurtful looks.

Each of us wanted to prove we were right. In that tense moment, I went quiet and looked at my wife. Then I walked towards her and hugged her.

There was no script or carefully chosen sweet words. I simply hugged her.

Calming down before speaking

In that embrace, we both cried and forgave each other. I learned that I could still show love to my wife even when we were arguing.

The hug became my way of saying I still loved her. At that moment, proving who was right was no longer my priority.

That's where I learned: hug first, talk later. Calm down before speaking. Set ego aside so that what I want to say can reach my wife.

For me, marriage means caring for the love between us. That experience reminded me not to become so focused on winning an argument that I forget the person I'm speaking to is the wife I love.
